North Port covers a lot of ground, and much of it sits low and flat with sandy soil and a network of canals. Water management is the local reality, and a gutter system is one part of it. Getting the trough right is only half the job here. The other half is where the downspouts discharge, because a downspout dumping at the foundation on a low-lying lot creates a problem the gutter was supposed to solve.

Most homes here are from the last few decades, so we're generally not dealing with the decades-old wood fascia we find in older Sarasota and Bradenton neighborhoods. What we do find is undersized systems and downspouts placed for convenience rather than for drainage.

Storm season matters more in North Port than almost anywhere else we work. Homes here have taken direct hits, and the difference between a gutter run that stays on the house and one that doesn't usually comes down to hanger count and how well it was fastened to the fascia.
